Lyndon Armstrong Kidwell

He was born in Virginia on August 18, 1926 to Ernest and Anna Kidwell. He lived in Virginia for his whole life. Lyndon did spend about a year in the Merchant Marines in 1945 but that was pretty much the only time he was away from home for any time.Lyndon married Maxine Dixon in 1946 and they were married up until Maxine’s death on July 11, 1984. Together they shared 39 wonderful years together. They had two children, Diana and Lyndon. They all lived together happily at their house on Mt Vernon Highway for many years.Lyndon went to work for the Army Map Service in the early 1960’s. He continued his work with the government until he had a heart attack in 1970. He then retired from Civil Service.In 1985 Lyndon met and fell in love with Jane Margaret Engelman. He welcomed her son, John into his life and treated him like his own. They were together up until Jane’s death on August 24, 2009. Since that time John has been Lyndon’s main care giver. John would not have had it any other way.Lyndon loved Christmas time. Which might explain his love of the color green!Lyndon is survived by his daughter Diana Linguiti and her husband Mathew of Augusta, GA, his son Lyndon (Mickey) Kidwell of Renton, WA and John Engelman of Mt Vernon, VA. He is also survived by his grandchildren Brian Lese of Lexington, KY, Andrea Lese of Morgantown, WVA, Rachel Heil of New Braunfels, TX, Julianne Kidwell and Lyndon Alexander Kidwell (Xander) of Newton Washington. His great grandchildren Kelly Lese, Olivia Heil and Amelia Heil as well as his great great grandchild Camryn.There will be two visitations held at Mountcastle Turch Funeral Home 13318 Occoquan Road in Woodbridge, Virginia on Sunday, September 10, 2017 from 2 – 4 PM and 7 – 9 PM. Services will take place at the funeral home on Monday, September 11, 2017 followed by burial at Chestnut Grove Cemetery in Herndon, Virginia. (PotomacLocal.com)

She was born on Nov. 3, 1928, to Fred and Ella (Ackelbien) on the family farm in Charter Oak.A private family graveside was held on Aug. 9 at the Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines.The Armstrong-Van Houten Funeral Home in Mapleton was in charge of the arrangements.Condolences may be left on the website at armstrongfuneral.com.A memorial service for Norma will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 3, at the St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Mapleton. A light lunch will follow.Norma Jean and John were active members of St. Matthews while Norma Jean was specifically active in Home Bible Study and LWML.Norma Jean grew up in Charter Oak and attended Charter Oak High School. On Dec. 21, 1946, she married Loren Albertsen. To this union was born two daughters, Linda and Sandra. Loren served his country during World War II. He passed away due to illness on Aug. 21, 1986.The couple resided and worked in San Diego, Calif.; Wichita, Kan.; and Des Moines. Shortly after Loren’s passing, Norma Jean moved to Mapleton. On Feb. 14, 1992, she married John O. Jacobs.Norma Jean and John enjoyed traveling to at least 20 World War II service reunions and several family gatherings/reunions plus making the rounds to the casinos. She and John often played pinochle and euchre with neighbors and close friends.Left to cherish her memory are her husband, John Jacobs of Danbury; daughters, Linda Merrill of Mapleton and Sandra (Dennis) of Urbandale; two grandchildren, Cami and Cassandra Kennedy; four great-grandchildren, Sam Albertsen, Norma Jean, Pete, and Luke McEntee; sister, Luella Braase of Schleswig; step-children: Carol (Bruce Burton), Tom Arndorfer, Joan (Kurt Rutz), Dennis Jacobs (Kim), Donald Jacobs, and Patricia Jacobs; nephews, nieces, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Loren Albertsen; grandsons, Micah Gosch and Loren Peters; her sister, Phyllis Ernst; and John’s second oldest child, Catherine Arndorfer.
